Ian Forbes • Morbid Anatomy

I have always seen art as an exploration of the marvelous and the fantastic: a magic and alchemical practice. This piece began with a dream: a drowned girl, Ophelia, rising from the earth of a prairie field. In an attempt to realize something of this vision I brought together objects, images and text to construct memory and history (real and imaginary) revealing an intensely intimate expression.

In conjunction with this installation I created an elaborate online backstory which Gilbert Bouchard describes in his review: Tall tales from the Peace help put the truth in art. Click the link to see the article.

Much of this work was completed at the Prairie North Creative Residencies in 2004 and 2005.
